The year's first recipeint of the Warrior of the Week is junior point guard Kevin Tran. This is Kevin's first year on Varsity, he was Co-MVP last year on JV leading his team to a 18-win season with his fast paced style of play and pin point passing. Kevin not only receives this award not only for his hard wark on the court, but also because of his tenancious attitude towards his school work. Kevin is currently sporting a 4.56 gpa! That's right straight A's folks, in all his classes, which include Advance Placement (AP) courses. He has chosen pharmacy as his career path, and is definitely headed in the right direction. He his a model Student-Athlete and is to be commended. Congratulations Kevin!! |
Alemany’s Junior Varsity basketball team started their season off the way every team would want to, they won their first tournament! This past Saturday they captured the Burbank Tournament Championship by defeating Saugus High School 48-44, going 4-0, defeating Bell-Jeff, North Hollywood, & Burbank on the way to the finale. The championship game started off slow for Alemany going down 11-1 in the first quarter, but they battled back and got back in the game ending the first quarter down 15-9. They began to pick up their defensive pressure in the second quarter holding the Centurions to six points, going up 24-21 at halftime. The second half was very exciting; Alemany came out with an intense third quarter and went into the fourth quarter up 35-30. The last quarter was pressure packed, Saugus came back to take the lead with under four minutes to play, but Head Coach Brandon Moore would not allow his team to be rattled by the Centurions valiant come back; he quickly called a time out to settle his guys down and they came out composed, focused and poised to win there first tournament championship of the year. Junior Guard Jonothan Audish sank one of two free throws with six seconds to put the Warriors up by 4 which iced the game and brought the trophy back home to Mission Hills!! The leading scorer for the game was Junior forward Nick Arriagada who finished with with 15pts and 12 rebs. The Warriors leading scorer for the tournament was sophomore Cesar Soto who averaged 14.5ppg in the tournament. Congratulations to Coach Moore, Coach Wheeler and the entire JV Boys Basketball team. Go Warriors!!etball team. Go Warriors!! |
